Construction & Alterations

Cedar Point 150th Spectacular! Parade

Parade

Focused on constructing the Beach Brigade hats and belts, Midway Mania hats and helmets, Coaster Chaos shoulder extensions and knee pads, and Finale Flag Brigade sashes. 


Basic alterations were done to many other  garments throughout the Parade. 

Night Show

Focused on alterations such as: hems, taking in waist bands, suit jackets, and adding straps to dresses. 


Also focused on creating "button holes" in garments to hide/discretely access harnesses on Grandma, Grandpa, and Drummers.

"in the Blood" by suzane-lori parks

Construction: fabric fussed with sturdy interfacing to front and back faces, ironed to create concave effect.


Applique: addition of a coat tail, shoulder pieces, satin lining and lapel to preexisting suit.

“A Midsummers Nights Dream” by Bejamin Britten

Applique of embroidered tulle over skirt, braided trim applied to finish off the raw edge. 


Alteration: hemmed both men's pant legs and took up the sleeves of the brown suit. 

Alteration 1: detached skirt from a  preexisting dress, created casing for elastic. 


The dress was worn by two actresses with differing body shapes, therefore, a top skirt section would attach to the preexisting waistband with snap tape.

“Sycorax” by Susan Gayle Todd

 Cross-Body Harness Construction: leather boot pieces cut/sewn into straps, straps secured around metal hoops, snaps fastened to the bottom, front strap for quick-release. 

Construction: two pleated skirt sections sewn to a waistband, snaps and hook/bar used as closures.

“A Tale of Two Guvners” by Richard Bean

Construction: satin flat-lined to linen, buttonholes were created for the scarfto peek in and out of the neckline. An invisible zipper was added to the back of the shirt and skirt. 

 Alteration: pant hem taken up, stirrup added.

"Electra" by Sophocles

 Construction: casing around wrists and waist for thin, corded elastic. Hand stitched neckline. The show had two performers wearing the same dress, so it had to be made to fit both. 

     

    Applique: thick, woven trim with corners sewn to create a seamless pattern around the placket. Trim added to sleeve seams. 


    Alteration: sleeves taken up, collar removed.

    "A man of no importance" Book by Terrence McNally, Music by Stephen Flaherty, Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens

    Construction: flat and draped organza flat-lined to heavier linen.

    "Spring awakening" Book & Lyrics by Steven Sater, Music By Duncan Sheik

    Alteration: sleeves and skirt shortened,  casing for elastic made around the sleeve hem. 


    Construction: separate, gathered waistband. Skirt had to be taken off and the top section was cut off due to a stain.

      "Perfect arrangement" by Topher Payne

      Construction: hand-painted, duchess satin flat-lined to linen for structure.  Mesh was cut into strips, finished,and applied to the neckline and skirt hem. Pom-pom balls were hung at the hems by embroidery floss.
